Crisis Response: It Takes a Village

When the COVID-19 pandemic made its way to West Africa, Tongo Wata coordinated its response with the sound guidance and enthusiastic participation of community members of Tongo Fields - from delivering aid items to instructing community members on the use of masks.

With the current confirmed cases in Sierra Leone at 1,340, deaths at 55, and limited testing capacities, the predominant focus of our response is the promotion of hygiene barriers. This includes the provision of soap, masks, and new chlorination kits for the water wells. Since the food supply chain has been disrupted, livelihoods turned upside down, and agricultural activities paralyzed, essential food items for households in Tongo Fields, Sierra Leone, were also included in our crisis response. With the pandemic picking up its pace on the African continent, we expect to continuously monitor community needs and provide appropriate crisis aid while aiming to jointly promote our main objective: resilient livelihoods.
